The Charente Maritime is one of the sunniest regions of France with a gentle climate and wonderful local produce.
In the heart of the Pays des Vals de Saintonge, Saint-Jean d'Angely offers a tresure of history.The town includes the Abbaye Royale, the two towers of the cathedral and the imposing houses that once belonged to Cognac merchants. The banks of the lake and the river Boutonne are perfect for walks, cycling and fishing. The lake also has pedalos, canoeing and lots of activities for the young.
Ville-arsenal from the XVIIème century, Rochefort offers visitors an insight into the Maritime history of France. The Maison Pierre Loti, the Corderie Royale, the new Musée Hèbre de Saint Clément, and the replica frigate l’Hermione.
The town was known as a European market place for salt and later as a military fort. The citadelle de Brouage forms a star of stone in the heart of the wetlands.

Jewel of the Coast of Beauty, between the Wild Coast and the estuary of the Gironde, Royan is renowned for its five superb sandy beaches, its stunning architecture with contemporary buildings alongside the villas of the Belle Epoque and its many summer events like "Un Violon sur le Sable", the International Show Jumping ... a visit is also necessary to Palmyre Zoo, one of the most beautiful French zoos where you will find over 1,600 mammals, birds and reptiles.
La Rochelle is a city turned towards the sea which offers beautiful walks along the quays of the Old Port and its maze of streets with arcades. Do not miss: the Towers of Old Port, the gateway to the Big Clock and the Aquarium for a journey into the oceans. In July, La Rochelle comes alive with its Francofolies which bring together the biggest names francophone artists.
Marais Poitevin et Venise Verte
This exceptional natural site does not leave indifferent lovers of beautiful nature. Real theater of greenery and water paradise for wildlife, the Marais Poitevin and his heart called the Green Venice are revealed in a traditional boat called "flat" through a multitude of channels of different sizes.
Birthplace of Francois 1er, Cognac is known worldwide for its liquor that bears its name. Many of the famous Cognac names offer visits and tastings. On a sunny day take a barge trip on the Charente, visit the museums, the castle of François 1er, and the old town.
